    The Licensing Authority
    The Latvian Electronic Communication Office licenses and supervises all Latvian radio services, including amateur.

    The current Amateur Radio Regulations are in force since 10 May 2008, replacing the previous 1993 version.

    Statistics
    222 Latvian amateur stations had valid licenses on 19 February 2001. Membership to the Latvian Radio Amateur League is voluntary.

    Frequency Bands

    Amateurs in Latvia may use the following frequency bands*:
    135.7-137.8 kHz
    1810-2000 kHz
    3.500-3800 kHz
    7000-7200 kHz
    10100-10150 kHz
    14000-14350 kHz
    18068-18168 kHz
    21000-21450 kHz
    24890-24990 kHz
    28000-29700 kHz
    50-52 MHz
    144-146 MHz
    430-440 MHz
    1240-1300 MHz
    2300-2450 MHz
    5650-5850 MHz
    10-10.5 GHz
    24-24.25 GHz
    47-47.2 GHz
    76-81.5 GHz
    122.25-123 GHz
    134-141 GHz
    241-250 GHz

    *In some bands and subbands power restrictions apply.

    License Classes

    There are two license classes in Latvia, called categories which may be defined** as

    A - Extra
    B - Novice

    **Unofficial, used here solely for explanation.
    A Category

    A Category amateurs may use all bands all modes (137 kHz CW only).Power:
    LF 1 W erp
    MF & HF 1000 W
    50 MHz 100 W
    144 MHz and 430 MHz 100 W
    above 1 GHz 50 W

    Old 1st and 2nd category stations become new A category stations.
    B Category

    B Category amateurs may use all* modes on the bands
    3510-3750 kHz, 100 W
    7010-7040 kHz, 100 W (*CW only)
    21000-21450 kHz, 100 W
    28000-29700 kHz, 100 W
    144-146 MHz, 50 W
    430-440 MHz, 20 W
    1240-1300 MHz, 10 W.

    Old 3rd and 4th category stations become new B category stations.
